Since 1989 we have served our clients well as technology partners, assisting them from technology recommendation to design, development and deployment of enterprise custom applications. Rooting from the Sanskrit word meaning knowledge, Vedas delivers on its name.
A comprehensive, Web-enabled, rental/retail system was designed for the Mr. Tux Formal Wear chain of 45 stores in New England.Mr. Tux was in the market to replace its old system with one that would allow all stores to have instant access to current inventory information at all times. They needed a solution that would avoid a dedicated network between the stores, reduce client installation at the remote sites and minimize store network maintenance.Numerous solutions running on AS/400 and other similar environments were considered. Our solution was chosen in view of the immediate benefits of the features, reduced infrastructure and client rollout costs.
Chosen Platform
Windows 2000/ Windows NT 4.0, MSSQL server 7.0, VB, Crystal reports, IE 5.0, JavaScript and DHTML.
The System
The system we created provides POS functionality to all stores, complete bar-coded inventory tracking and handling in the warehouse, accounts receivable and PO system for the accounting and purchase departments. It includes complete employee ID card-based security and employee time sheet and HR features.
Results
This system met and exceeded all expectations of our client. As a browser-based solution, it allowed for instant and low bandwidth access to their online database. This ability, coupled with low maintenance, low client setup costs and reduced labor needs, considerably increased productivity and revenue at Mr. Tux.Our solution was implemented ahead of schedule thanks to our tested and proven method of interactive development. The system has been so successful that numerous chains across the country have opted to implement it over traditional AS/400 and other platform solutions.
Large scale LAN design and deployment
This client required integration of 75 branch offices located throughout the US. Each branch had a LAN with an application server that replicated over a VPN to the SQL server at the HQ. All branches also accessed the Mail server over the VPN at the corporate location as their messaging server. Vedas was hired to design, recommend, source and integrate all the LANs. MS Windows NT, Windows 98, MS SQL server, and MS Access were chosen as the operating environment. Compaq was the chosen hardware for the server and workstations. All LANs were installed, configured and tested in all respects at Vedas before they were deployed at the respective branches. TCP/IP was used the LAN / WAN protocol.
Project Duration: 6 months. This rollout was completed ahead of schedule and all branches are currently on-line.
Wireless LANs
We are currently developing a Wireless LAN implementation involving handheld (Pocket PC, Windows CE) devices integrated with MS SQL server, communicating over a secure environment to process orders. As part of a pilot run, we are rolling out 200 independent LANs at various locations in the New England area. Each LAN is comprised of a server running Windows 2000 and MS SQL server, an access point server for the wireless devices, and a firewalled access to the Internet. All the clients will use the handheld and the
wireless LAN to access the database and to process the order requests. All the LAN’s and the servers will be accessible from a central location for maintenance, trouble-shooting, and LAN monitoring and software upgrades. We have an excellent knowledge of all the LAN/WAN components including enterprise security, messaging, network backbone, routers, application servers, etc.
